Warm your NEST this Spring

Apr 12, 2017 | Latest News

Some days it’s sunny and warm at this time of year and then others, the temperature drops! Are you always turning your thermostat up and down and your heating on and off? The Nest Learning Thermostat Gen 3 programmes itself so your home heating stays constant and at the temperature you like, when you like.

7 fabulous facts about the new Nest!

  • Auto-Schedule

Nest programmes itself after the few weeks of use, by learning the temperatures you like.

  • Remote control

You can control the temperature of your home from your phone, tablet or laptop – so you can arrive home after a busy day or holiday to a warm house. Just connect your thermostat to Wi‑Fi.

  • Hot water control

You can control your hot water from anywhere too – turn it on/off, adjust your schedule, or give your hot water a boost if you need it. No more getting home and having to wait for the hot water to heat up for a bath…

  • Auto-Away

Nest automatically turns itself down when nobody’s home, helping save you money on your energy bills.

  • OpenTherm technology

Nest now uses OpenTherm technology to modulate your condensing boiler – so you can set your hot water temperature separately to your heating, saving money and energy .

  • Nest Leaf

You’ll see the Leaf when you choose a temperature that saves energy. So you’ll start seeing how you can be more energy efficient.

  • Nest Colours

You can choose from stainless steel, copper, black or white – so you can match your nest to your home’s colour scheme.

Henry Sneath, Operations Supervisor at Alderminster has this to say about the Nest learning thermostat Gen 3:

“ We found out my wife was expecting a baby and from then I was thinking about buying a Nest. Maybe that’s how men create a ‘nest’ for their offspring, or is it just away of persuading their wives to let them buy gadgets for the home? Who knows!

I knew my wife would be at home a lot over her maternity leave and obviously it’s important to keep the house warm when having a newborn in January, so why not do it whilst saving money?

The Nest thermostat learns the way you like to heat your house over the first few weeks of being installed and uses its built in motion sensor to detect when you are out to prevent heating an empty house. From that point it’s great not having to change the time clock or the temperature and with the added advantage of being able to adjust it from your phone, tablet or computer anywhere in the world.

Unlike a conventional thermostat which would come on at the time you set and work up to the temperature you’ve set, the Nest will have a target temperature set to a time and then heat up in the most efficient way possible to get to that temperature. The Nest also uses its motion sensor to tell you the room temperature every time you walk past which makes you more aware of the room temperature and prevents you from just turning the temperature up on boost.

Nest provide you with a home report every month to tell you how many hours your heating was on and potentially how you could save even more money. Overall we have saved every month on our gas bills since the Nest was installed and I would recommend it to anyone! “
