Will I receive a written quotation before work starts?
Yes. We provide a written quotation before work starts, setting out the recommended work and its cost so you can decide with the details in front of you.
You receive the quotation once we have enough information to price the work responsibly. For straightforward work, that may follow an initial discussion and inspection. Larger projects need a site assessment so we can account for access, existing equipment and any related work.
The quotation sets out what we propose to do and how the price has been built up. Depending on the project, it may include:
- the equipment or materials we recommend;
- the installation, electrical or plumbing work required;
- alterations to existing pipework, wiring, radiators or controls;
- testing, commissioning and the relevant handover paperwork;
- removal of replaced equipment and ordinary installation waste;
- important assumptions, exclusions and any work that depends on site conditions.
That detail matters when an ageing boiler, consumer unit or heating system is being replaced. The lowest headline price may not include the work needed to make the new equipment operate safely and properly. We explain those related requirements rather than leaving them to appear later.
For a heat pump, solar installation or battery system, the quotation follows the property assessment and system design. The position of the equipment, the condition of the existing electrics, roof access, pipework and available space can all affect the work. We can also explain which parts of the installation may be relevant to grant or export arrangements, rather than presenting a general saving estimate.
Your quotation should give you enough information to compare the work, not just the equipment. If you are considering more than one approach, we can set out the practical differences, such as keeping existing radiators where suitable or allowing for upgrades where they are needed.
Before any work starts, you have the opportunity to review the scope and raise questions. If something is unclear, we explain what the item means and why it has been included. You can then decide whether the proposed work is right for the property.
Old properties can contain features that are not visible during an initial inspection. If we discover a condition that changes the agreed scope, we discuss it with you before carrying out additional chargeable work. We do not treat an unexpected issue as permission to continue and add an unexplained amount to the bill.
The quotation also gives you a reference point during the job. You can see what was agreed, which parts we are responsible for and where a separate decision may be needed. That is particularly useful when electrical, heating and renewable work forms part of the same project.
If the project is for a rented property, the written scope also helps the landlord, agent and contractor work from the same information. We can identify required inspection, testing or certification work so the paperwork is considered alongside the installation rather than after it.
Once you are ready to proceed, we confirm the agreed work before arranging the installation. If your requirements change before then, we can review the quotation so the price reflects the decision you actually make.
The written quotation gives you a clear baseline for checking the final bill. It separates the agreed work from anything you later choose to add, so a change does not become an unexplained charge. If the scope needs to change, we explain the reason and cost before proceeding. You can then approve the revised work or keep to the original quotation where that remains practical.
