Gas boiler replacement

Heating an off-gas-grid property

Your oil or LPG boiler may be serviceable even when the heating system needs improvement, so replacement is not always the first step. We inspect the boiler, tank or cylinder arrangements, flue, controls, radiators and pipework to find the practical route forward. OFTEC registration covers work on oil-fired systems, which matters when an older rural property depends on oil heating. If you are considering an air source heat pump, we compare the changes to the system, hot water and electrical supply before you commit.

Air source heat pumps

An air source heat pump takes heat from outside air and uses electricity to warm the home and hot water. It can suit some older properties, but the building and heating system must be checked rather than assumed suitable.

What a heat pump assessment covers

Your heat pump needs correctly sized radiators, suitable pipework, space for the outdoor unit and a workable hot-water arrangement. We assess heat loss room by room and consider insulation, noise, planning constraints and the position of the cylinder and outdoor unit. Some radiators or pipework may need changing, particularly in older solid-wall homes or barn conversions. Our MCS certification allows us to make a Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant application on your behalf when the installation meets the scheme rules.

Controls and hot water

Poor control can make a sound heating system feel uncomfortable and waste energy. Changing the programmer, thermostat, valves or hot-water controls may improve how the system responds without replacing the boiler.

Making the existing system easier to manage

Your rooms may heat unevenly because of thermostat position, stuck valves, poor balancing or controls that do not match the way you use the property. We trace the cause before suggesting new controls. We can also review hot-water cylinders, timers and heating zones where the system serves different parts of a home, building or commercial property. Heating alongside solar and batteries

Future energy plans can change which heating system makes sense today. Solar panels and battery storage may affect how you use electricity, but they do not remove the need for correct heat-loss calculations and system design.

Planning the whole energy system

Your planned solar PV, battery or electric vehicle charger may increase the value of a coordinated electrical and heating design. We consider the available electrical capacity, consumer unit, hot-water demand and likely heating load before separate installations create extra work. MCS-certified installation supports an application for the Smart Export Guarantee where the export requirements are met. We set out the work in stages when a full heating change is not yet practical, so the next upgrade does not conflict with the existing system.

An older home does not automatically rule out an air source heat pump. If the fabric, emitters or available space make it unsuitable, we’ll explain why and recommend a more practical route instead.
