Alderminster Group is an independent, family-run engineering company helping homeowners, landlords and businesses manage the practical demands of heating, electrics and renewable energy. We combine repairs, planned upgrades and renewable installations with advice suited to older, rural and off-gas-grid properties.
When Paul and Maria Clack started Alderminster Group in 1983, the aim was straightforward: provide dependable engineering work that made difficult property problems easier to manage. The family still owns the business, and that practical approach continues to shape how we work.
If a job involves more than one trade, you don’t have to coordinate several contractors. Our directly employed electricians, heating engineers and renewable energy installers work as one team. That means we can plan the electrical supply, heating system, pipework and controls together rather than treating each part separately.
Older properties often need careful decisions before work begins. We look at the building, existing equipment and likely disruption before recommending an upgrade. If a heat pump, solar installation or battery system is unlikely to suit the property, we’ll explain why. If changes are needed first, the quotation sets out what they are and why they matter.
For repairs, replacements and planned improvements, you receive a written quotation before work starts. We explain the job in plain language, keep the work tidy and leave the property as we found it. Our engineers are employed directly, many have been with us for more than ten years, and we train apprentices in-house.
The right paperwork matters too. Electrical work is carried out under NICEIC and ECA standards, while gas, oil and renewable installations are completed by engineers registered for the relevant work. For renewable systems, MCS certification means we can make a Boiler Upgrade Scheme application on your behalf where the installation qualifies, and your system can be eligible for the Smart Export Guarantee.

Renewable heating can raise practical questions in an older property: radiator sizes, insulation, pipe routes and space for equipment all affect the design. We work through those details before recommending a system, so the decision is based on the house rather than a standard package.
That matters particularly for rural homes using oil or LPG. We can compare the existing heating arrangement with the changes an air source heat pump would need, including any electrical or plumbing work. If the property is not suitable, or the upgrade would involve disproportionate disruption, we’ll say so plainly.
