How disruptive is a consumer unit upgrade?

If the board is in a cupboard, move stored items out of the way. We need enough room to remove the old enclosure, route conductors neatly and inspect the connections. Clear access helps us keep the work contained and reduces the chance of disturbing surrounding finishes.

Older properties can need more investigation

A replacement board does not hide problems in the wiring. In an older house, we may find brittle insulation, loose connections, an unidentified circuit or a protective conductor that needs attention.
