Destination chargers at hotels, workplaces and car parks can sit between home and rapid charging in both speed and price. The site’s own tariff determines whether they are good value.

Your driving pattern matters more than a single advertised price. A driver who charges most miles at home may use public chargers only occasionally. Someone without off-street parking may depend on public charging and should compare network prices, parking rules and access before choosing where to charge. If you use several networks, recording the full session cost for a few journeys gives a more useful comparison than comparing headline rates.

For a home charger, the electrical installation also affects the overall decision. The consumer unit, earthing arrangement, cable route and available supply all need checking before work starts. A property with an older electrical installation may need associated work before the charger can be connected safely.
