What guarantee is included with the EV charger installation?

The guarantee included will be confirmed in our written quotation, because the charger’s manufacturer cover and our installation workmanship cover are separate. We’ll explain what each covers and who to contact if a fault develops.

The guarantee normally has two parts: the charger manufacturer’s warranty and our guarantee for the installation work. The written quotation sets out the period, what each part covers and who to contact if a fault develops.

The manufacturer’s warranty relates to the charger itself. It may cover a fault in the unit or one of its internal components. Its terms depend on the equipment selected, so we explain them before you approve the installation. The warranty may require the charger to be registered, commissioned correctly or assessed before a replacement is authorised.

Our installation guarantee relates to faults caused by the work we carried out. This can include an incorrectly terminated cable, a connection fault or another installation defect identified during the stated guarantee period. We assess the problem first, then confirm whether it falls within the agreed cover.

The guarantee does not usually cover every problem connected with charging. Damage from impact, unauthorised alterations, misuse, flooding or a later change to the property may fall outside the agreed terms. A fault in the car, the electricity supply or the wider mobile and internet network may also need to be dealt with by another provider. The quotation explains any relevant exclusions rather than leaving you to interpret them later.

Your existing electrical system can affect what the installation guarantee covers. If the consumer unit, earthing arrangement, supply capacity or cable route needs work, we identify that during the survey. Any required alterations are included in the quotation, so the boundary between existing equipment and new work is clear.

Electrical safety paperwork is separate from the guarantee. After the installation, we provide the relevant certification and commissioning information for the work completed. Keep these documents with the charger instructions, quotation, model details and serial number. They can make a warranty assessment more straightforward if the unit develops a fault.

If the charger stops working, note any error message and whether the fault affects the whole property or only the charger. Do not remove the charger cover or alter its wiring. If there is visible damage, burning, water ingress or a tripped protective device, stop using it and contact us for advice. We can then establish whether the issue is with the charger, the installation or the electrical supply.

Before work starts, ask us to show you these points in the quotation:

  • the length and scope of the charger manufacturer’s warranty;
  • the length and scope of our installation guarantee;
  • any registration or commissioning requirements;
  • the exclusions that could affect a claim;
  • the documents you will receive after commissioning; and
  • the contact process for reporting a suspected fault.

Our electrical work is carried out under NICEIC and ECA standards, giving you a clear distinction between the safety and quality of the installation and the manufacturer’s separate responsibility for the charger hardware. The written terms remain the definitive record of the cover included with your particular installation.

A smart charger can involve more than its physical hardware. If the problem appears only in the app, scheduling or remote connection, we first separate a charger fault from a software or account issue. That helps identify the correct party to deal with the problem without treating a working electrical installation as faulty.
