What guarantee covers the boiler installation?
A boiler installation guarantee covers faults caused by the installation or our workmanship; the boiler and its components are usually covered separately by the manufacturer’s warranty. Check the quotation and handover paperwork for the exact cover, periods and process for reporting a problem.
A boiler installation guarantee normally covers faults caused by the installation itself, such as a leaking connection, an incorrectly fitted component or a problem with the flue, condensate or controls. It does not replace the boiler manufacturer’s warranty, which deals with defects in the appliance and its parts.
The exact cover depends on the terms attached to the installation. We set out those terms in the quotation, including the length of the guarantee, what work is included and the exclusions that apply. Keep the quotation, installation record and commissioning documents together. They show what was fitted, how it was tested and which party deals with a future fault.
What installation cover can include
- A return visit to investigate a fault linked to our installation work.
- Correction of a leaking or poorly made connection installed as part of the job.
- Remedial work where pipework, controls or other components have not been installed or set up correctly.
- Investigation of a flue, condensate or ventilation issue where it results from the installation.
- Advice on whether the problem falls under the installation guarantee or the appliance warranty.
The guarantee applies to the work we carry out. It does not normally extend to an old radiator, existing pipework, wiring or controls that remain in place unless the quotation specifically includes them. A fault in an existing part can appear soon after a new boiler is fitted without being caused by the installation.
What is usually outside the installation guarantee
- A manufacturing fault inside the boiler or a component covered by the manufacturer’s warranty.
- Damage caused by freezing, impact, flooding, electrical problems or poor water quality.
- Faults caused by changes made by another contractor after the installation.
- Blocked condensate pipes, dirty system water or a lack of required servicing where the terms make maintenance a condition of cover.
- Normal wear to consumable items or repairs to equipment that was not included in our work.
These exclusions vary between installations, so the written terms matter. For example, replacing a boiler while retaining older heating controls gives a different scope of cover from replacing the boiler, controls, pump and sections of pipework together. We can only guarantee the parts of that work included in the agreed quotation.
What happens if something goes wrong?
Start with the installation paperwork and note the fault, any warning code and when the problem began. Contact us with those details rather than removing parts or changing the controls. We can then assess whether the symptom points to the installation, the boiler or an existing part of the system.
If the fault relates to our work, we arrange the appropriate remedial work under the installation guarantee. If the boiler itself is at fault, the manufacturer’s warranty normally sets the process for the appliance repair. We explain the distinction before chargeable work is undertaken, where the cause can be established.
For a gas boiler, the installation and commissioning record should show the required safety checks. Oil-fired installations need the corresponding oil-heating documentation. These records can be important when warranty support is requested and when the property is sold or let.
A guarantee is separate from routine servicing. Servicing checks combustion, safety and condition as the boiler ages; it does not extend installation cover automatically. The manufacturer’s terms may also require registration or servicing, so check those requirements as well as our installation guarantee.
For domestic work, a guarantee does not remove your statutory rights. If the installation has not been carried out with reasonable care and skill, those rights may still apply even when a particular fault falls outside the written guarantee.
When you compare quotations, check that the guarantee matches the work your home actually needs. A boiler replacement may include the appliance and flue, while controls, pumps or sections of pipework remain outside the agreed installation.
Ask us to identify those boundaries before you accept the quote. You should also know which documents to keep and who to contact if the boiler develops a fault. That avoids confusion between a problem with the installation and a defect covered by the appliance manufacturer.
